As part of the Reimagining Lincolnshire Community Engagement Programme, Threshold delivered Lincolnshire History Askew, a tabletop adventure that turned local history into an interactive game. The event took place on Saturday 20th June at Alive Church, Lincoln, co-created with tabletop gaming expert Adam from Warhammer Lincoln and Nerd Herd.
Players stepped through a time vortex to meet figures from Lincolnshire’s past, from Anne Askew to Septimius Severus, solving mysteries and closing portals as they travelled through different eras of the county’s history.
Turning real people and events into a game gave players a way into local heritage that felt playful and hands-on rather than passive. Those who took part enjoyed the format, engaging with Lincolnshire’s history through problem-solving and choice rather than simply reading or listening.

The game has been designed with longevity in mind. Rather than a single-use event, Lincolnshire History Askew is intended to live on as a reusable engagement tool, able to reach new audiences and continue opening up Lincolnshire’s hidden histories beyond the event itself.
Lincolnshire History Askew was co-created with tabletop gaming expert Adam from Warhammer Lincoln, and delivered in partnership with Nerd Herd. This event was part of the Reimagining Lincolnshire Community Engagement Programme, produced by Threshold and made possible with the National Lottery Heritage Fund.
