Our Work Frequency Festival
Frequency Festival 2026 marked the eighth edition of Lincoln’s celebration of light, art and digital creativity, bringing together the much-loved elements of Frequency Festival and Lincoln Lights for the first time.
For three nights in February, artists, local groups and communities brought historic buildings, streets and unexpected places across the city to life.
At the darkest, coldest point of the year, #Freq26 gave people a reason to wrap up, head into the city and rediscover Lincoln after dark.
Frequency 2026 welcomed visitors from across the UK, while local residents rediscovered places they thought they knew. Families, first-time festival-goers, day trippers and overnight visitors all came together to explore a free programme designed to be welcoming and accessible to everyone.
The festival supported 43 artists, from local and regional creatives to national names, with increased representation of Deaf, disabled and neurodivergent artists. 35 volunteers helped bring the festival to life, and audiences consistently praised the creativity, accessibility and welcoming atmosphere of the programme
Frequency Festival 26 welcomed more than 28,000 visitors over three evenings, generating an estimated £1.1 million in visitor spend and 2,454 bed nights for the city.
For 80% of visitors, Frequency was their main reason for coming to Lincoln. 97% said the festival felt welcoming and safe, 94% rated its quality as good or very good, and 80% said it strengthened their connection to Lincoln and to other people.
The festival generated 15 pieces of media coverage, reaching an estimated 3.7 million people across national, broadcast and consumer media, and firmly establishing Frequency as a driver of off-season tourism for the city.
Since 2011, Frequency Festival has transformed Lincoln’s historic cityscape with bold and imaginative experiences, transforming Lincoln’s streets and landmarks into spaces for imagination and connection.
Every two years, this international festival of art and technology transforms Lincoln’s historic streets and public spaces into a playground of creativity, imagination and connection.
Since 2011, Frequency Festival has celebrated the power of digital culture to inspire, challenge and bring people together. From large-scale installations and immersive experiences to thought-provoking performances and playful encounters, the festival invites audiences to see the city in new ways.
“Lincoln’s Frequency certainly deserves to be taken seriously as an event that may update the business of its city.”
The Telegraph
Over more than a decade, Frequency has become one of the UK’s leading digital culture festivals, showcasing cutting-edge work from both established and emerging artists while championing accessibility and public engagement. It continues to explore how creativity and technology can help us make sense of the world around us and shape the future of our public spaces.
In 2026, Frequency entered a new chapter as Frequency: Festival of Light, Play & Discovery, combining the best of Frequency Festival and Lincoln Lights into one citywide celebration. The result was a festival that felt bigger, brighter and more accessible than ever, proving how ambitious cultural experiences can make a real difference to people and place.
Planning for Frequency 2028 is already under way. If you’re a funder, business, cultural organisation or creative partner who shares our ambition for Lincoln, we’d love to hear from you – feel free to drop us a message at info@frequency.org.uk
