Listening Lines Launches in Lincoln
Threshold is delighted to announce the launch of Listening Lines, a new digital audio trail exploring overlooked LGBTQ+ histories and contemporary community stories in Lincoln and Lincolnshire.
The trail was officially launched on 26 June as part of Place, Pride, People, a Reimagining Lincolnshire event celebrating Lincoln’s LGBTQ+ communities and the power of place, memory and belonging.
Created by audio-visual artist Bec Smith of Urban Projections, Listening Lines is a free, location-based sound experience set within Dawber Garden, Lincoln’s beautiful and historic walled garden. Using headphones and your smartphone, visitors can explore the space through sound, with voices, memories, music and hidden histories unfolding as they move around the garden.
Alongside the sound work, visitors can also explore an accompanying visual zine. Chosen for its long history within queer culture, the zine celebrates DIY publishing, visibility, community-building and resistance, while sharing stories, images and ideas from the project.

Listening Lines is free and available to experience at any time.
- Download the Echoes app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.
- Search for Listening Lines in the “Walks” section.
- Head to Dawber Garden, The Lawn, Lincoln, LN1 3BU.
- Plug in your headphones and begin exploring.
Listening Lines is the latest digital trail to launch as part of Reimagining Lincolnshire, Threshold’s National Lottery Heritage Fund-backed programme uncovering hidden and overlooked stories from across the county. Over the coming months, more trails will be released, inviting people to discover Lincolnshire’s heritage in new and unexpected ways.
